Today (April 21st) marks the 100th day for Superstar Mahesh Babu’s action entertainer ‘Businessman’. The movie created a sensation when it released on January 13th 2012 and took in phenomenal openings to end up as one of the highest grossers of Mahesh Babu’s career.Success was extra sweet because the movie came immediately after a massive blockbuster like ‘Dookudu’. The film had Mahesh Babu playing the role of Surya Bhai, an extremely intelligent gangster. Kajal Aggarwal was seen as the heroine and Thaman scored the music. The film was shot in a remarkably shot span of time by director Puri Jagan and the movie’s success altered the dynamics of the film industry considerably. Why Businessman @ Failed Overseas?

Businessman failed to do wonders in overseas as expected. The film is indeed doing well in India but the overseas collections are much below the desired numbers. The buyers have estimated that the film would cross Dookudu in overseas collections seeing the trend in first week.
Businessman collected Rs 5 Cr in first week in USA but in second week it dropped badly to Rs 20 Lakh. But in the case of Dookudu, the second week collections were Rs 2.5 Cr.
This has marred the overall result. The main reasons for this fall are attributed to climatic conditions and also the content in the film.
While one of the reasons is the heavy snow fall in East and heavy rains in west, the other reason is that there is no sufficient comedy in the film to draw crowds to theatres.
Whatever be the scenario, so far, the top grosser in USA in the history of Telugu cinema are number one- Dookudu, number two- Businessman and number three- Magadheera.
Who knows, looking at the speed of Mahesh Babu and the image that is growing, even the third place may be occupied by him soon.

Businessman @ Celebrates the success!!

Super Star Mahesh Babu’s latest release Businessman collections are setting new records in Tollywood. The film collected more than Rs 62 cr on the first week itself. According to the reports Businessman crossed all the records in almost all regions for the first week.

The producers of the film have planned for a success meet today evening at Hotel Novotel in Hyderabad. Mahesh Babu, Krishna, Dasari Narayana Rao, movie unit members and few other Tollywood celebrities will attend this event.

BusinessMan is directed by Puri jagannath and produced by Venkat on R R Movie makers banner. Kajal is the heroine of this film. Thaman has composed the music.

With “Businessman” declared a super hit, superstar Mahesh Babu now has two back-to-back box office blockbusters to boast of in a record span of just four months.

The actor has reaffirmed his undisputed numero uno position in the Telugu film industry and has become the toast of T-town. Excerpts from a chat with Mahesh Babu…

You moved into a new home…

Yes, my new house is great. I would say the vaastu is perfect – when I moved into this house, “Dookudu” released. And now I have “Businessman”. Both are blockbusters and I am very happy with the positive response.

You’ve worked in back-to-back super hits… how has the whirlwind journey been?

After completing “Dookudu”, I immediately started working on “Businessman” without taking a single day off. Both these characters are completely different. And I was feeling nervous during the first couple of days shooting. But I followed Jagan garu and he helped me do a perfect job.

Before “Businessman”, director Puri Jagannadh was badly in need of a Tollywood hit. What made you sign on the film?

I personally think that Jagan never gets down or disappointed by his flops. He is a happy man and he always smiles, no matter how his film does. But yes, what I know is that a few industry people have been irking him and troubling him for the last couple of years. He has channelled all that frustration into “Businessman”… He shot the film with anger. there is fire in the dialogues.

When he narrated the story to you, did you ask for any changes in the script? Do you do that with all your movies?

I accepted this film with complete confidence in Puri Jagannadh. In fact, he told me the complete plot only after 15 days of shooting was completed! I always believe that one can’t interfere in another’s work. Once I start work on any film, I surrender myself completely and blindly follow the director.

You completed the film in a short span of just three months?

Yes, this is going to be a new trend for sure. I hope many will follow this in the industry. We didn’t just complete the film in a record time, but we also made it a blockbuster. This is a lesson in budget control… we saved so much money by shooting like this.

Word is doing the rounds that you are doing the Hindi version of “Businessman”? Is it true?

No. I am not doing that film. Actually I won’t do any Hindi films in the near future. As long as I am acting, I will do only Telugu films. I want to take Telugu films to the world. Everyone should talk about our films. The response I get from the fans and people here is amazing, I would never want to leave that.

People are now saying you are the number one star and the brand ambassador for Telugu cinema?

If people say those things, I feel happy. But at the same time, I’m aware that more responsibility lies on me now. Let me tell you, when I work on a movie, I never aim for records, collections or the number one position. I always concentrate on my work and look for ways to improve my acting abilities. I also advise my co-stars not to concentrate on these pretty issues and just focus on acting.

So hits and flops don’t affect you then?

When people say they take hits and flops in their stride, I personally feel that they are just lying. Of course, I’m upset when my movies flop. I take it very personally. I don’t talk to anybody and don’t even step out of my house for a week or 10 days. A lot of people are involved in a film and a lot of money is invested in it. I want everybody to be happy when they do a project with me. For instance, after my record hit, “Pokiri”, I was a bit confused about what kind of films to do next. And after that, a couple of flops happened. At the same time, my grandmother, who was very close to me, passed away. I was very upset and wanted to take a break for eight months. This break extended to a good three years, but in that period, I learnt a lot. I distanced myself from the industry and I enjoyed spending quality time with my family, especially my son. It is only after I regained my confidence, I started work on “Khaleja”. I enjoyed myself thoroughly while doing that film. I’m happy that the break I have taken really worked out for me.

You are not just the ‘Prince’ of films, but you are also the choice of multiple brands for endorsements…

The brands I endorse don’t associate themselves with anyone so easily. They approached me only after conducting surveys and polls on who is popular here. They showed me those figures and I’m happy that I have such a huge fan following all over. It’s a great feeling.

Your fresh, new look in movies is being much talked about…

I don’t go out of the way to take special care of myself. I am just very happy right now. And when you look happy, you look good to others.

You hardly make any public appearances and you’re rarely spotted socializing. Do you have friends in the industry?

I’m not a party person. I was always like this. Once I finish shooting, I head straight home and spend time with my family. It’s only when I have to promote my films, that I make public appearances. Home is my favorite place to be. Coming to friends in Tollywood, all the directors I’ve worked with are my best friends. Jagan garu, Trivikram and Srinu Vaitla are all my friends and I’m constantly in touch with them.

Your future projects?

I am doing a multi-starrer with Venkatesh, which is surely going to be a trend setter in Telugu cinema. Venky is one actor who I have always respected and I’m very happy to be working with him. People who thought that I only do action flicks will enjoy this family

entertainer.

After that, I will start work on director Sukumar’s film. I’m lucky that I am getting such

different and interesting scripts now.

This might sound unusual but then it is happening. Reports of incidents are coming in and here is an insight. It is heard that many Families are going to INOX for watching ‘Businessman’ doing advance booking. Since the film is ‘A’ certificate, the theatre folks are reportedly mentioning that no tickets should be issued for kids.
The families are saying “How can we go back? We have tickets. Do one thing, give us one ticket to ‘Bodyguard’. We will go to ‘Businessman’ and our kid will go to ‘Bodyguard’.” The real comedy is happening once the ticket is bought. All are going to ‘Businessman’ dumping the single ticket they have.
Apparently, in other multiplexes like PVR, Prasads, checking at the gate is done but in INOX it is not there. Once the tickets are shown at entrance, anyone can get inside the theatres. That way, families are going for ‘Businessman’. But due to this rule, it is working indirectly for ‘Bodyguard’.
However, there are those who say what is the reason for implementing this law so strictly? Few parents are scolding the theatre folks and saying “Our kids our wish, we will take them to any film, if they get spoiled it is our responsibility”.
At the end of the day, ‘Bodyguard’ is going full but inside, the seats are empty. This goes to show that the first preference of audience is ‘Businessman’ and they are doing whatever they can to watch it.

ACP Krishna Manohar (Mahesh in Pokiri) gets married to his lover (Ileana). He receives a call from Central Home Minister to catch Surya Bhai (Mahesh in Businessman) who is penetrated deep into the system. Surya Bhai continues his mission mafia even after getting married to his love (Kajal). Now the tussle starts between Pokiri Mahesh and Businessman Mahesh. Who wins should be watched on screen. Yes, its needless to say Mahesh is in dual role.
The film is hitting floors in September and planned to complete in 3 months to release by Sankranthi 2013. Mahesh is already bringing pressure on Seetamma Vakitlo Sirimalle Chettu team to complete his part by August.

Mahesh Babu and Puri Jagannadh’s most awaited film of the year ‘Business Man’ was premiered on Thursday in most of the centers in USA. The film lived up to the hype and got record break openings in overseas. The film which carried extreme positive buzz even before its release broke the previous existing record in overseas held by Mahesh Babu’s Dookudu, collecting around 340K just through premieres, once again proving the superstardom of Mahesh Babu.
Tickets have been sold out within hours after the bookings were opened for premiere and regular shows In Weekend. Mahesh Babu played “Surya Bhai”, a chap who wants to conquer Mumbai and rule Mumbai underworld by choosing crime as Business. Mahesh’s enthralling performance left the audience spell bound. Prince Mahesh Babu’s Businessman is going great guns in all places and the movie is turning in an unbelievable Box Office performance in all areas. We have just received information that Businessman’s first week share of East Godavari is on track to cross the lifetime share of Pokiri in East Godavari. Tickets have been sold out for many days in advance and that has allowed the distributors to get an approximate evaluation of the first week share. Pokiri’s lifetime share stands at about 2.40 Crores for East Godavari.
The movie has been released in a record number of theaters across the world due to the huge buzz surrounding the project. Businessman has Mahesh Babu and Kajal in the lead roles. Puri Jagan has directed the film.

Story:
Mumbai city commissioner Ajay Bharadwaj (Nasser) announces in a Pressmeet that mafia dons are wiped out from the map of Mumbai. He also states that he would break the leg if any don steps in Mumbai.Instantly Surya (Mahesh Babu) steps in Mumbai. His friend (Brahmaji) takes him to his room in slum. Surya asks him to quit job and join him as an assistant to do his proposed crime business. He also says that he is in Mumbai to make it piss.
How he emerges as a don falls rest of the story. He uses his brain and brawn to grow big in Mumbai. He plays with system and preys on politicians to grow his business. On parallel line he loves Chitra (Kajal), the daughter of commissioner. Story wise, it's simple but the narration beauty is ample and dialogues tremble the senses of audience. Rest should be watched on screen.
Performances:
Mahesh Babu is all over the film. He charms with his style, scares with his intensity and strikes with his looks. His dialogue delivery is another high asset to the film.
Kajal Agarwal does her bit as required. She provides glamour where required and sheds tears when wanted. As such, her characterisation is not that strong but she provides some visual relief.
Prakash Raj was not used to his potential. In fact, his arrival comes rather late in the film and before he can pick up he is packed up. But those little moments he was there he made his presence felt.
Nasser was natural. His scenes with Mahesh Babu were effective and both shared a good chemistry. It is inspiring to see Nasser maintaining strong biceps even at this age.
Sayaji Shinde was standard. Brahmaji was usual. Dharmavarapu was contained. The girl doing the role of Kajal’s friend was funny. Shweta Bharadwaj sizzled in her item song. The others didn’t have much scope.

Analysis:
In one line, the story is about the emergence of a don by a common man. However, there is a fine line between narrating a story with conviction and clubbing it with cinematic liberties.
The liberties taken were too high and this led to an artificial feel among the audience. Films like ‘Nayakudu’ ‘Dhalapathi’ ‘Saamrajyam’ were classier in portraying such tales. Secondly, Mahesh is seen giving few lines on how one should be selfish.
Well, the audience may like what he is speaking because it is the hard truth but acceptance levels will differ. Moreover, for someone like Mahesh and his charisma, such lines are quite conflicting to his image. The entire film runs purely on two things- Mahesh Babu’s performance and Puri’s dialogue power.

Overall, Businessman is Mahesh Babu's show all the way. And what a show it is. He just towers over the movie with his sheer presence and he is aided by some incredible dialogues from Puri Jagan. The film is high on entertainment quotient. Ignore some of the illogical sequences and the holes in the plots and you are in for a highly enjoyable ride. This is as good as paisa vasool entertainers get. Go and have fun with your friends this weekend. You will enjoy this flick.

One of the reasons behind ‘Dookudu’ collecting the highest ever shares in Overseas is the piracy control. As they had great control on the online piracy, the NRIs had no other option except going to theaters to watch the film. The advantage of Dollar to Rupee conversion gets maximum profits for the producers.


It seems the makers of ‘Businessman’ are going to follow the same technique to get maximum profits in Overseas. Already a press note has been released to warn the websites that encourage piracy. ‘Businessman’ is releasing in nearly 100 theaters in US and the makers are expecting 15% to 20% of total share from US itself. If the movie gets positive talk and the piracy gets controlled successfully then the movie can surely collect the expected amount genuinely. Let us wait and see what happens.
