Review @ Sudhir 'SMS' Movie!!

Story:Siva (Sudhir) is a courier boy, who falls in love with RJ Shruti (Regina) at the first sight. They cheat each other by telling lies about their professions and later they come to know about the actual facts. Cat and mouse game starts between the two which eventually turns into unexpressed love. Siva’s odd behavior puts Shruti off and the couple gets separated. How they unite forms the climax of the film.

Analysis:
SMS is a romantic comedy which doesn’t take itself serious. That is the beauty of this cute little fun film. The film starts off on a dull note. Initial scenes don’t impress you much. But once the ‘love fight’ starts between the lead pair, things get smoother and funnier.
There are numerous one liners that will have you in splits. Also the love story seems cute and sweet in the first hour. Despite some shortcomings, SMS first half does impress the audience. Second half too is dealt in a lighter vein mode.
Inconsistency in hero’s characterization seems to be the biggest problem for SMS. He doesn’t act wise and speaks trash that puts the heroine as well as the audience off. Director made it up with the neatly done climax sequence.
SMS is a movie for young audience and it will please the target audiences. It is worth a watch for the comedy and freshness.

Performances:                                                                                                                                  Sudhir did a fine job for a first timer. He is good at dances. Voice seems to be his biggest weakness. Performance wise he is okay. Regina is the find of the season. She did a brilliant job. Vinay Mohan is hilarious with his comedy punches. Vennela Kishore too excelled in his role. Saranya is loud. Tagubothu Ramesh did his usual ‘drunkard’ comedy in one scene. Kasi Viswanadh and others are okay in their respective roles.

Technicalities:
Music by Selva Ganesh is average. Songs are good to watch, but not great on ears. Nandyala Ravi’s dialogues are pretty good. Chitti Babu’s cinematography is just okay. There is nothing noticeable on the editor’s part. Production values are fine.
Director Tatineni Satya handled the movie well barring few odd scenes. He should try to make a straight movie as remakes will never give the clear picture about a director’s talent. He made subtle yet effective changes to the original script and that is laudable.

Final Word:
SMS is a fun movie which should get good response from the target audience. It falls in the category of films like Ala Modalaindi, Ashta Chamma etc. Watch SMS if you liked those films.

Review @ DON 2 - A must watch for action buffs!!

Story:
Don (Shah Rukh Khan) has plans to looting the Euro currency plate from a high security vault. He makes plans after plans to hit bulls eye and amidst meets his old foes Roma (Priyanka Chopra) who plays a cop and her mission is to disturb Don’s plans; and Vardhan (Boman Irani) who is looking at side lining Don. He’s still being chased by the police, and this time not of 11 countries, but 101 countries. What happens next is the climax, which is better, undisclosed with the question that will Farhan make Don 3.
Analysis:
Shah Rukh plays a baddie after a long span in his career and adds charisma to Don. But the actual hero of the film is Farhan Akhtar who seems absolutely sure of what he is looking at. He makes the actors perform, the technicalities sound and has put soul into the film. Don that was the remake of the Amitabh Bachchan starrer received mixed reviews as people could not get over Big B as the Don, but Don 2, is different and shuts all of them up who compared Don with the Big B starrer.
Performances:
Shah Rukh is at his best as the arrogant, rude and witty Don. He’s back and how! Shows that he is the original king! Priyanka Chopra looks astonishing and acts well. She adds lots of glamour to the film and that’s not all, she is a great actor too. Boman Irani is charming and you will love to hate him at the same time. He does a wonderful job. Lara Dutta and Kunal Kapoor are adequate. The rest of the supporting cast is good too.
Technicalities:
The film’s music is not very great, but SEL do a decent job. Background score makes the thrilling sequences all the more interesting. The action stunts picturized should be commended with some must-watch breath-taking sequences. Editing is crisp but the romantic angle added could be explored more for commercial reasons. Farhan Akhtar’s direction is great, as already said.
Highlights
Shahrukh simply rocks in his bad boy act and carries off the character of Don with style. The one-liners, irreverent attitude, the swagger work in his favor. Farhan’s script ensures he get to mouth plenty of catchy one-liners. He looks completely natural whether it’s fighting with Vardhan or flirting with Roma. The rest of cast pitch in with creditable supporting performances esp., from Boman Irani, Priyanka, Lara Dutta and Nawwab Shah. The action sequences, of which there are many across the film, are extremely well- executed and the car-chase sequence on the streets of Berlin is the highlight. The hand-to-hand fight scenes look very realistic and pack a punch. The cinematography by Jason West captures Berlin in its steely blue tones while Asia is shot in warm natural colors.

Drawbacks

There is not much to write about here. People who go in expecting the quota of five songs might be disappointed since there is only song on screen. Apart from that, the film could have cut down the slightly lengthy second half but then again it does not bore you at any point.

Final Word: A must watch for action buffs.

Story:
A well knit tale, the story begins with two couple. There is Gautham (Sharwanand) a random stranger who is asked for help by Amrutha (Ananya) who comes to Hyderabad for an interview from a small town. She takes Gautham's help to reach the venue but she doesn't trust him completely. But having spent almost a day she starts liking him but doesn't express her feelings to him. The other track is that of Krishna (Jai) a soft spoken guy who falls in love with the dynamic, practical and straightforward Madhumita (Anjali). She reciprocates his feelings but with certain conditions. The twist occurs when Krishna takes Madhumita to his hometown in a bus from Hyderabad and the same bus has Gautham in it. On the other hand, Amrutha decides to search for Gautham and takes a bus towards Hyderabad. Both buses collide with each other and what happens from there forms the rest of the story.
Artist performances:
Sharwanand has come up with a classy performance and he gives a natural act which involves the audience into his character. Ananya looks apt as the innocent girl from town and has a sweet appeal. Jai has given a decent performance and he suits the bill of a shy and soft spoken person. The best among the lot was Anjali who is not only sensuous but strong in her performance and portrayal of character. The others were there to fill the screen and add value.

Analysis:
The film happens to be the dubbed version of the Tamil film 'Engeyum Eppothum' and this marks the debut of Murugadoss as producer, Saravanan as director and Fox Star Studios in Kollywood. The thing to appreciate is a simple storyline has been picked up and infused with a gripping screenplay and strong emotions. The subject is easy to connect since bus travel is an integral part of many Indian lives. And the various characters with their lives form a complete circle. Technically, the film has been made with good standard but it is the content which scores. At the box office, given the low cost in making, the film has enough material to gain good profits.
Verdict: Touching but truthful!

The Dirty Picture Movie Review: Yes! It’s Dirty but entertains! Ekta Kapoor has yet again hit bulls eye with an unconventional subject that is true and debatable. The film totally belongs to its lead protagonist Vidya Balan who once again proves that there is no one like her. 

Story:
The film is a biopic on a C Grade actress of the South Indian actress Silk Smitha played by the very talented Vidya Balan. She has just one dream, to make it big in the industry and she could do anything for it. She gets whatever she wants but loses her identity of a small town girl. As Suryakant (Naseeruddin Shah) who plays a top actor of the 80’s era puts it in the film, she becomes the dark secret of the film world that cannot be acknowledged in daylight. The first half shows how she is the main reason films work and the second half shows the lows of her career. 

Analysis:
Milan Luthria is a pro at showing the intricate details of a true life story. He did it in ‘Once Upon A time in Mumbaai’ and he does it again. I haven’t closely monitored Silk Smitha’s life but from what is said about her, Milan gets it right. The film transports you to the 80’s era successfully and how films were made those days and what worked. Sex sells, yes just the packaging changes. It is shown in a more sophisticated manner these days but it’s true, how much ever we may try to defend. The point is that the woman is shown sultry loses everything, but those who are showing her in that light and those who are watching it get away. The film makes you think. 

Talking about the entertaining aspects of the film, it has it all. It has all the masala needed for a commercial potboiler and those who refrain from watching emotions will love the first half. Second half is more on the darker side and is not for people who like light comic flicks. It gives glimpses of Madhur Bhandarkar’s ‘Fashion’ as the latter was also about the ups and downs of a model’s career. But ‘The Dirty Picture’ hits the right nail and works big time.

Performances:
Vidya Balan, enough said!! The name is synonym to abundance of talent. The gets into the nerve of the character and forgets that she is Vidya, she is Silk in the film and makes you believe that. She has put on 12 kgs for the film and is shown bulky but manages to look good, apart from a few scenes where here tummy is focused more on. Tusshar Kapoor plays a writer who is in love with Silk. He does a decent job. Emraan Hashmi has a mystic charm to him. He entertains with his dialogue delivery and is refreshing to see him in a different role than seen before. Naseeruddin Shah is a gem. He is par-a-class. The rest of the supporting cast is aptly cast. 

Technicalities:
Direction is a total thumbs up. Background score totally apt. Music is a blend of the 80’s with Bappi Lahiri’s ‘Ooh La La’ already a chartbuster while ‘Ishq Sufiana’ is in sync with the on-going trend. Milan manages to recreate the 80’s era and it’s refreshing to see for the younger generation who haven’t witnessed the actual. Cinematography is good. Dialogue and its delivery is a major plus. All the dialogues are worth lauding.

Minus Points: overdose of emotions in the second half

Final Word: Truly said in the film, A film works for three reasons, entertainment, entertainment and entertainment and ‘The Dirty Picture’ has loads of it.

After disaster Dhada, Naga chatanya decided to  shift the genre and experimented the faction based story 'Bezawada'.Vivek Krishna directed this movie.Controversies before the movie got the required promotion free of cost.Lets analyse whether movie could stand to the free publicity obtained and whether Naga chatanya's experiments succeeded..

Story:Kaali (Prabhu) is a noted gangster in Bezawada.Vijay Krishna(Mukul Dev,Krishna Villian) is right hand of Khali and Jai Krishna(Ajay), Shiva Krishna(Naga Chatanya)are his brothers.Khali always mistreats Shankar(Abhimanyu singh) infront of Vijay Krishna and derogates with abusive lanuage. Shankar aims  to take over his father seat and kills his own father Khali.After Khali's lanuadeath, Vijay Krishna's dominance rules among unions and shankar  gets rid of Vijay Krishna to secure the permanant leader tag in Bezawada.Shiva Krishna decided to take the revenge for his brother's death.How Shiva krishna executes Shankar forms the rest of the story.

Naga Chaitanya:

He is hardly seen in the first half of the movie, except for few namesake love scenes and meaningless fight.After Dhada disaster,everyone expected Nagachaitanya to sign a powerful role, which elevates his performance.But his Bezawada was nothing less than a murderous attempt from unbearable hereditary product, Naga chaitanya.With Bezawada, it is proved that this young talent is devoid any talent required to act in Telugu movies.However, there is a little betterment in the dialogue emoting when we compare with first movie josh,but that is not at all enough.It requires lot of patience to watch him for 1 hr(only second half).When a hero delivers a punch dialogue, we expect whistles in the theatre, but whenever there is any powerful dialogue with stupid emotions from Naga Chaitanya ,theater is full of laughters,

It is high time Naga chatanya work on his acting skills by joining a decent acting school.And Nagarjuna should not leave him to choose his own scripts to avoid anymore Dhadhas and Bezawada's.

Amala Paul: She has very less screen presence.She is homely and sweet.Her looks slightly match with Priya anand.Beside Naga chaitanya any actress can pull a decent performance.However, there is lot of mismatch in lip sink , especially in closeip scenes.Director should have taken care of silly mistakes, that turn very costly on the screen.

Others:Mukul Dev dubbing is a disaster, it missed the native feel.Abimanyu singh is boring and torchure.His repeat physcho acting is very irritating and his dubbing is very stupid.Prabhu is ok.Kota Srinivas rao is wasted with useless character. Ahuti Prasad as SP is just ok.Brahmanandam and MS Narayana are idiotic and stupid.

Why does Ram gopal verma hate Telugu Film industry? this is the question that popsup in everyone after watching Bezawda.How is vivek krishna qualified as a director is a million dollar question.Useless script, brainless narration, careless direction, mediocre camera work, cheap dialogues are few feathers in his directorial cap.In order to get the feel of RGV brand, he shakes the camera to his will and wish, giving headache to audience.He has zero knowledge on movie making.In one line, he is a yet another garbage by product of RGV company.

Other Departments: Music and background reminds us of death band.Telugu teleserials has better cinematography.Mahabharath teleserial dubbing is lot better. All departments suck equally and bang viewers left right and center without leaving any gap.

Revenge drama is common aspect in RGV movies.Even his hit movies Sarkar and Sarkar Raj are classic examples of how a routine revenge drama can be packed in a attractive box.Bezawada also adopts same routine story.When one believe in routine story, one has to be very careful about the narration.Director seems to be less interested in a making a movie in the first place.There is hardly anything that local people can relate to and every scene is abrupt and every dialogue is lacklustered.Background music acts as soul to this kind of movies, but BG of bezawada haunts us through out the movie.

One can say this movie stands as black mark in the history of great Vijayawada.Earlier when movie was titles Bezwada rowdies local people objected for depicting Bezwada in a negative way,but after watching the movie they might fight against the name of the movie.(for making a ugliest movie in the name of Bezawada)

On a whole bezawada a just a nightmare and another super duper flop show from RGV brand director.

Final words: Do not even enter the street where movie is screened.People might turn sociopath and suffer a brain damage after watching the movie.

Review @ Desi Boyz – Mindless Comedy

Akshay Kumar, John Abraham, Deepika Padukone and Chitrangada Singh come together for ‘Desi Boyz’, a movie which has been directed by Rohith Dhawan. The movie has released all over the world on the 25th. Let us see how it fares.
Story: Desi Boyz is about the lives of two desi boys living in the UK. Nick Mathur (John Abraham) and Jignesh Patel ( Akshay Kumar ) are faced with a host of economic and personal problems when they lose their jobs in the recession. Nick is engaged to Radhika (Deepika Padukone) while Jignesh Patel needs to take care of his orphaned nephew. Out of desperation, they start working as something that is a cross between a stripper and a male escort.
All hell breaks loose when their loved ones discover this act. What follows next is a story filled with desperate attempts by Nick and Jignesh Patel to win back their loved ones. Along the way, Jignesh also falls in love with his ex classmate Tanya (Chitrangada Singh)
Plus Points : The lead stars look good on screen. Deepika Padukone is especially hot. Dialogues are a major asset. The movie proceeds along at a fair pace in the first half. and is entertaining in parts. Cinematography is good. Music and background score provided by Preetam is an asset. Songs have been shot well. Sanjay Dutt’s cameo is good.
Minus Points: The movie has some mindless, outdated and cliched comedy. Many scenes in the movie will remind you of the movie ‘Hey Baby’. There is zero logic in many of the sequences that unfold in the movie. The characterization of the heroes is highly hypocritical in nature and is not believable. The concept of the actors turning into male escorts but refusing to sleep with their clients(because of values!!) is idiotic.
Rohit Dhawan’s direction leaves a lot to be desired.
There is also a lot of idealistic preaching in the movie, things which have been said over and over for a zillion times in Bollywood movies.
Finally: This is a movie that can only be watched if you leave your brain back home. The first half has some mildly enjoyable scenes. The second half is where everything goes for a toss. If you are a Deepika Padukone fan though, there are some ‘colourful moments’ in the film for you. Otherwise, Desi Boyz is best avoided

Mayakkam Enna Movie Review

Story

Dhanush is the pivot around whom the whole story revolves. Karthik (Dhanush) is a freelance photographer who lives life his own way. He does work hard and wants to leave a mark as an photographer. Though he does portfolio and weddings, his pasion is wildlife photography. His only desire in life is to work with Madhesh Krishnaswamy (Ravi Prasad), a world renowned wildlife photographer. 

Karthik prefers to spend his time with his close buddie Sundar (Sundar) and their gang have a gala time. One fine day, Kartik is introduced to Yamini (Richa), Sundar's girlfriend. Kartik and Yamini turns cat and mouse and often end up quarreling. But call it fate, Yamini is slowly attracted towards Kartik. There begins a different journey in the lives of these three people.  What happens then forms the rest.

Performance

Its straightaway a Dhanush special. The National award winning actor has proved that he can do any role with ease. His expressions and body language  are the hallmark of the movie. Selvaraghavan has understood the strength of Dhanush and played it well.

Richa is a Revelation. She brings right emotions and has a meaty role to play. Sundar walks away with honours and does chip in with his best.All the erst of the characters add pep to the proceedings.

Analysis

It is more a take off of Kadhal Kondein, but narrated in a different way. Selvaraghavan knows the pulse of youngsters and gives one to suit their tastes. With a seasoned campaigner like Dhanush by his side, he has gone gaga. All said Mayakkam ENna is a perfect one for youths.

Finally: Mayakkam Enna is a treat for youngsters.  

Solo Movie Review

Story:
Gowtham (Rohith) is an orphan, who dreams of having his own family. Gowtham feels that if he marries a girl from a big family then he could have all the relatives. So he tries his best to find one such girl. He falls for Vaishnavi (Nisha) as she has everything that he is looking for. She is the daughter of Raghupathi (Prakash Raj), who wants his daughter to marry a man from a joint family. He rejects Gowtham as he is an orphan. The love pair got separated. How do they convince Raghupathi is the rest of the story.
Performances:
Rohith is rigid. He couldn’t emote well. His diction and screen presence is good. But he should concentrate on his expressions to be in business. Nisha Agarwal’s performance is not convincing. She should also work on her expressions. Prakash Raj is perfect as heroine’s father. He steals the show. Jayasudha is fine. Srinivasa Reddy is entertaining. Ali is alright. Sayaji Shinde  and others did their bit.

Analysis:
Solo film has a simple story. Director Parashuram penned down a solid screenplay to narrate this simple point like his guru Puri Jagannadh. The film’s flow until interval point is smooth. The takeoff is good in the second half too. But the film’s color changes all of a sudden.
Until interval it is an entertaining story with ample fun. When the hero’s character takes a U turn, the mood of the film too has changed big time. Although it is understandable, few may not like the sudden shift. Director should have tried to include some funny characters in the marriage atmosphere without changing the mood of the hero. So that it would have pleased the audiences that look for comedy throughout the film.

On a whole, the mood of the film is alright. This story has to be dealt this way. There is nothing wrong in the approach of the director. Instead of being vocal all the time, he should have tried to show the pain of the protagonist visually. Saying so, we should admit that the dialogues are pretty good.
Solo is being promoted as an entertaining love story. But it is actually an emotional love story blended with some amount of comedy. The makers of the film should immediately focus on the publicity and packaging!

Story:
Srinu (Nikhil) is a happy go lucky guy. He falls in love with Meghana (Pooja Bose) and tries desperately to get a positive response from her. But Meghana’s father Durga (Suman) is in jail and his opponent Shankar (Sayaji Shinde) is after Meghana. Now how Srinu rescues her from Shankar and win her love forms rest of the story.

Performances:
Nikhil tries to imitate Raviteja yet again, but failed to be as entertaining as his mentor. He should learn to act as he hardly emotes except putting faces. His dances and fights are good though. Pooja Bose doesn’t know to act. Ali, Raghubabu, Master Bharath and Venu Madhav are mildly entertaining and MS Narayana leads the pack. Suman and Sayaji Shinde are alright in their roles. Rest of the star cast did their bit.

Analysis:

Veedu Theda is a routine fare in which the director tries to keep the audience entertained all the time. There is no freshness in the subject and the screenplay goes haywire. Only plus point is there are loads of comedians all over the film and they don’t let the film go down.
First half of the film is a bit lengthy and interval point is very predictable. Director deals the rest of the story in a comical way by introducing various comedians at various points in the film. MS Narayana does his ‘Dookudu’ mimic stunt yet again. This time he imitates Pawan Kalyan and Mahesh Babu in addition to Balakrishna and Rajinikanth.

However, the film ends on an abrupt note and there is nothing to carry home. Songs are pretty bad and there is no freshness in the film whatsoever. Mass audience might enjoy the film for its extra dose of comedy. All the comedians in the film ably shouldered it. If the director has come out with fresh scenes and has written fresh comedic lines, it should have ended up as a real commercial entertainer. Now it will only appeal to lower sections of audience and classes who look for healthy comedy may disown it completely.
