The Mahesh Babu mania is currently ruling the roost among the Tollywood circuit and the Telugu masses. And it looks like even Lord Shiva seems to have been sidelined in the process. Well, Shivarathri has happened and it is an age old culture wherein special films are screened in rural areas during late nights upto early hours.
The idea of this is to do ‘Jaagaranam’. Ideally, one has to spend the night watching devotional movies or doing bhajans of Lord Shiva. But this year, the maximum demand is for the films ‘Dookudu’ and ‘Businessman’. More than chanting ‘Namah Sivaya..’ many are keen on singing ‘Saar Osthara…’.
That way, the last midnight has been dominated by Mahesh Babu than Maheshwarudu. However, there are those who say watching hit Telugu films is also part of Shivarathri culture and it has become an integral part of the festival.
