Review @ Gabbar Singh - Solid Entertainer

Rating: 3.5 / 5
Director : Harish Shankar
Producer : Bandla Ganesh
Music Director : Devi Sri Prasad
Starring: Pawan Kalyan, Shruti Haasan, Malaika Arora
Story :
Venkatarathnam Naidu (Pawan Kalyan) is the son of Suhasini and the stepson of Naidu (Nagineedu). He loves Gabbar Singh’s character from Sholay and so he decides to call himself ‘Gabbar Singh’. He grows up into a daring and dashing but highly eccentric police officer. He is posted to his hometown of Kondaveedu and he decides to rid the population of law and order problems. This brings him into direct confrontation with Siddhappa Naidu (Abhimanyu Singh), the local goonda and a political aspirant.
As Gabbar Singh goes about confronting Siddhappa Naidu, he comes across Bhagyalakshmi ( Shruti Haasan ) and falls in love with her. Things get murky as the story proceeds and strong human emotions like jealousy, hatred and greed come to the fore. Will Gabbar Singh be able to stop Siddhappa Naidu’s atrocities? What price will he have to pay to achieve his goals? That forms the rest of the story.
The movie is an adaptation of Salman Khan’s ‘Dabangg’ and is not a straight remake. There are major changes in the story and in the treatment of characters.
Plus Points :
Pawan Kalyan is simply outstanding in the role of Gabbar Singh and he delivers beautifully on all counts. Pawan Fans will go into raptures of delight with his comedy, punch dialogues and mannerisms. He is excellent as always in the action sequences and he has performed some mass dances this time around.
Shruti Haasan looks beautiful and innocent as the simple village girl. She does not have too much screen presence but she has done justice to whatever was given to her. Ali enterains asconstable Samba and his scenes with Pawan are good. Brahmanandam rocks as Recovery Agent Ranjith Kumar. Suhasini and Nagineedu are decent in their respective roles.
Abhimanyu Singh is just about ok as Siddhappa Naidu. Rao Ramesh is good in a brief role. Happy Days fame Gayatri gets a radically different character in the film and she will score points with the front benchers.
The first half moves along at an incredible pace and it is highly entertaining with some solid dialogues. Some scenes like the one where Pawan makes an entry in a rickshaw with Megastar Chiranjeevi’s ‘Ee petaku nene mestri’ playing in the background will score major brownie points with fans. Comedy quotient is high throughout most of the film. The antyakshari block in the police station is hilarious. The romatic track between Pawan and Shruti is very entertaining and it has been conceived very well by Harish Shankar.
All the songs have been shot very well and ‘Dil Se’, ‘Pilla’ and ‘Gabbar Singh’ songs will stand out for beautiful visuals. Malaika Arora sizzles in ‘Kevvu Keka’ and this song will entice B and C center crowds.
Minus Points :
Ajay has a very small role and does not have much to do. Same goes for Kota Srinivasa Rao. Except for the ‘Mandu Babulam’ song, he does not have any significant role in the film. There have been some major changes in the script, particularly in the second half and perhaps, the original storyline from Dabangg should have been used. Tanikella Bharani’s role does not dojustice to his talent.
The pace of narration dips slightly in the second half and care should have been taken to match the first half’s tempo. The required emotional depth is missing in the run up towards the climax. The climax sequence could have been handled better. The voice used to dub for Shruti Haasan is a little odd.
Technical Aspects :
Cinematography is outstanding and the film has great visuals. In particular, the songs shot in Europe are beautiful and DI work is impressive, Editing is OK. Fights have been conceived well.
Devi Sri’s music is a major asset to the film and background score is impressive. Special mention must be made of Harish Shankar’s dialogues. They are a major asset for the film and when delivered in Pawan’s trademark fashion, the effect is outstanding. Harish succeeds brilliantly in the first half as a director but fails to repeat that brilliance in the second half.
Finally :
Pawan Kalyan’s fans will have a very enjoyable time while watching Gabbar Singh. The movie has good comedy, superb dialogues and some very entertaining episodes from Pawan. the sheer brilliance of the first half and a sterling performance from Pawan make Gabbar Singh a solidly entertaining watch. Thumbs up for Gabbar Singh.

Same craze for @ Pawan even after 100 Flops

Pawan Kalyan, the name itself is enough to send positive vibes. He is the only star in the Industry who have no enmity or competition from anyone what-so-ever. Even his contemporary heroes and their fans wish Pawan films to do well at the Box Office. This aspect makes him special and keeps him apart from the huge bunch of heroes.
It's an open secret that no one can enter into his league. If we try to differentiate the heroes in the Industry, Pawan will be on one side and the rest of them on the other end. Pawan haven't attained this stature just because of his stint as an actor. His ideologies and life style made him the man he is Today. He preaches what he follows, always sticks by his word regardless of the consequences, down-to-earth, helping nature and being truthful are few of them.
Even if Pawan's films bomb at the Box Office one by one repeatedly, the craze for him will remain intact forever. Hits don't change him, Flops won't affect him! Hats off to Powerstar!

First Talk @ 'Gabbar Singh' Is Double 'Racha'

Powerstar Pawan Kalyan's 'Gabbar Singh' is finally here. Check out the first talk of this movie from premiere-show screens.
As everyone knows, the story is simple where a hero takes revenge against a baddie who plays spoilsport with his family. The movie is a delight for Pawan's fans to watch their heartthrob's entry on a horse. Whole first of the movie is dominated by Powerstar's punch dialogues and hilarious comedy scenes. With Pawan as their captain, all the comedians in department have done their part to take this movie to a serious interval. While narration is a big slow in second half, the fighting scenes remain highlight showing the stamina of Pawan. One will definitely forget the original 'Dabangg' after watching 'Gabbar Singh'. Pawan in title role and Abhimanyu Singh as villain have rocked the screen with Shruti Hassan playing a perfect romantic interest of the hero and Malaika shaking masses with her curves.
Technically, GS is etched with high standard production values. Ram-Laxman's fights and awesome background score stand atop. Jayanan Vincent's camera work looked awesome for this hilarious entertainer by scoring 100 marks in songs.
Overall, this movie gives a break for Shruti Hasan from the iron leg talk. Pawan's fans anyway get the double treat of what they have experienced from 'Racha' during the start of this season. Watch out for our review!

Pawan's 'Thikka' @ Has Different 'Lekka'!!

Within two hours of counter opening, the tickets for all the 28 shows got sold out at Prasads Multiplex for ‘Gabbar Singh’. Even the prime time shows for next day also got sold out. It is not just Prasads but many theatres across the state which had the same situation. Despite the fact that the Hindi version is a hit and had a remake release in Tamil, the grand release of ‘Gabbar Singh’ in Chennai has shocked many.
Benefit show tickets priced at Rs 1000 got sold like hot tickets and fans are taking pictures of that and sharing it with their friends proudly saying they are the ones to have a look at the first show. This film is not from a hero who just gave a blockbuster. It is not a miracle like ‘Arundhati’ ‘Magadheera’ either. It is simply a remake with story known to all.
Despite the fact that Pawan scored 3 consecutive flops, looking at the current mania one cannot deny that his fans have got a special ‘Thikka’ on him and it has got a ‘Lekka’. Pawan hysteria has begun…if it can catch audience pulse then box office will have a huge Tsunami!!

Indian Cinema @ Completes 100 Years:1913 To 2013

It is often said that there are two things that Indians are most fond of - one is politics and the other one is cinema. Of course, politics today has also become a form of entertainment for the public but a genuine form of entertainment has been cinema. This is now reaching a very important milestone. Well, the time has come for Indian cinema to touch the hundred years mark and a lot has gone through the journey of cinema from where it is today to where it started sometime back.
It was in the year 1913 that the first Mookie film came into existence. This was 'Raja Harischandra' which was produced by the legend Dadasaheb Phalke. This was made in Marathi and the venue for such films was the theatres. Jamshedji Framji Madan was the first entrepreneur who owned a set of theatres and produced films annually. Then, came the time of Raghupathi Venkaiah built his own cinema halls in Madras. Today, an award has been instituted in his name in the Nandi awards of Andhra Pradesh.

A new chapter began on March 14th, 1931 with the first Indian talkie film Alam Ara followed by Bhakta Prahlada in Telugu which was produced and directed by H M Reddy. The golden age of Indian cinema came in between 1940 -1960 where parallel cinema came into existence thanks to the likes of Satyajit Ray, Bimal Roy and others. Then came the age of commercial cinema with icons like Guru Dutt coming up with movies like 'Pyaasa' 'Kagaz Ke Phool' followed by Raj Kapoor with his 'Shree 420' 'Awaara' and others. Eventually, movies like Mughal-E-Azam, Madhumati went on to make their presence felt in foreign film circuits.
The modern Indian cinema came into being from the 1970s with the likes of Shyam Benegal, Adoor Gopalakrishnan, Mrinal Sen, Buddhadeb Dasgupta, Govind Nihalani coming up with realistic movies. It was at this time, the emergence of Amitabh Bachchan as the angry man marked a new definition to heroism. Films like 'Sholay' 'Deewar' marked a new chapter. The 1980s saw more of commercial cinema with the likes of 'Ek Duje Ke Liye' 'QSQT' 'Tezaab' 'Maine Pyar Kiya' 'Chandni' creating a major stir at the box office.
The 90s saw the emergence of new age filmmakers like Mani Ratnam, Ram Gopal Varma, Madhur Bhandarkar, Anurag Kashyap, Deva Katta, Nagesh Kukunoor and others. Now, the Indian cinema has reached the new millennium and offbeat moviemakers like Neeraj Pathak, Sriram Raghavan, Sekhar Kammula and others are making their presence felt. A revolution of sorts has happened in terms of defining glamour, entertainment, commercial values, budgeting, marketing and box office reports. Going forward, Indian cinema looks more positive to reach a new league thereby encouraging the regional circuits like Tollywood, Kollywood, Mollywood etc to carve their own presence.

Glimpses of Indian film industry:
First Feature film screened at : Coronation Cinema, Mumbai
Pioneer of Indian silent movies: Raghupathi Venkiah
Censor Board Started in 1927
First Indian talkie film - Alam Ara (March 14 1931)
First color feature film in India - Jhansi Ki Rani (1953)
Founding fathers of new cinema - Satyajit Ray, Ritwik Ghatak, Mrinal Sen

Daruvu @ Postponed due to GabbarSingh Talk

Gabbar Singh mania has reached scary levels as fans and common audiences are going mad over this film. Pawan Kalyan's star power coupled with sensational music and a massy outlook promises a masala treat for the audiences this summer. Despite the bad track record of Pawan Kalyan in the recent past, Gabbar Singh is showing Pawan's power to the box office.
28 shows are being screened in Prasads multiplex on the first day and all the tickets were sold off in just two hours. Same is the case with other multiplexes and single screens. Tickets were booked in advance for four days in many theaters in advance. This is shocking the film fraternity too. One could not believe that Pawan Kalyan's last blockbuster film was released eleven years ago and he has only one hit in the meantime.
Talk from industry sources is very positive although there has been buzz about heavy sentimental dose in the second hour. However there are enough elements to click with the target audiences and fans it seems. The signs of Gabbar Singh's storm are already showing as Raviteja's Daruvu, which was planned to release on May 18th is now likely to be pushed to 25th. If the public talk is in favor of Gabbar Singh then there would be many changes done to the scheduled releases.

NTR's @ dual role in 'Baadshah'?

Young tiger Junior NTR has begun to make headlines again after his much hyped movie 'Dammu' became an average product. This time, the news is about his bearded look and some felt it was 'Dammu' shock and few others mentioned it was due to some internal clash with Babai Balayya.
Anyways, here is something reliable. The bearded look is for his new movie 'Baadshah' and that is not the only thing. Buzz is that Junior is likely to have a completely different avatar in the film which is being kept as a secret. Rumors made it that Junior is playing a dual role in Baadshah, One with a rugged and rough attire and the other striking with Srinu vaitla style satires. This is the idea of the jackpot hit director Srinu Vaitla.
The talented duo of Gopi Mohan and Kona Venkat are sharpening their pens to come up with a powerful script and give the much needed success for NTR. The music is by Thaman and the saucy seductress Kajal Agarwal is the leading lady. NTR comedy timing was awesome in Adhurs under VV Vinayak direction. Now it is a Srinu Vaitla Movie and one can expect how NTR will be shown in Baadshah.

Power @tensions for Rajamouli!

Director Rajamouli, who hasn't yet tasted a failure in his career spanning over a decade, is under tremendous pressure for his upcoming film Eega. Rajamouli had to live up to his reputation as well as hit bull's eye with Eega to get back the huge money spent on it. That won't be as easy as it was in the past because Eega doesn't have a star to pull the crowds to the theaters.
Besides, Eega should not face tough competition from the films that are releasing ahead of it. One of the biggest threats for Eega is Gabbar Singh. This film is releasing twenty days ahead of Eega, but if it strikes the right chord with the audiences, a Power star film can do lot of damage to the films that follow.
Rajamouli has been very busy with the post production work of Eega at the moment, but is still going to watch Gabbar Singh on the first day. Rajamouli says he too found it tough to get Gabbar Singh tickets and had to satisfy with the Prasads big screen tickets. He booked around thirty tickets for the first day first show of Gabbar Singh. Let's see what Rajamouli's take on Gabbar Singh is. Wait for his tweet review!
